How do I know it is time to replace the roof?
Common signs are widespread curling or missing shingles, granule loss in gutters, leaks in more than one spot, daylight in the attic, or a roof near 20 to 25 years old for asphalt shingles.
Can a new roof go over the old one?
Some codes allow a second layer of shingles, but many roofers prefer a tear-off so the decking can be inspected. Ask what your local code and the manufacturer allow.
